Does anyone know how to make put a t behind a page reference to denote a reference to a table?

That’s not directly possible. I would use the page number formats: for word documents bold and italic, for InDesign documents, the formats displayed in the drop-down menu in the toolbar in the text window. The page number format must then be replaced into a t behind a page number in the last step after construction of the final index.
